Ealing Charity Boss Dies After Contracting Coronavirus


Tributes paid following Ricky Singh's death at Northwick Park Hospital

There's been shock and upset following the death from Covid- 19 of the director of the Ealing based West London Equality Centre.

Ricky Raymond Singh,70, died at Northwick Park Hospital on Friday just days before his birthday, after contracting the virus. It's been reported he had underlying health conditions.

West London Equality said; '' It is with great sadness we have to tell you that our CEO, Ricky Singh, mentor to many, has passed away yesterday from the Corona virus. We are devastated as is his family, made more difficult by social distancing and isolation.He dealt with the world with love and humanity."'

Mr Singh was a highly respected Human Rights barrister who graduated from UWL’s School of Law in 2001 and began a career dedicated to helping others and tackling discrimination and hate crime.

He remained an active member of UWL Law School’s alumni throughout his career, and continued to recruit and co-ordinate lawyers and law firms to provide placements and work experience for students throughout west London.

In recognition of his outstanding work for the University and people across west London, Mr Singh was awarded an honorary degree from UWL in 2014.

Professor Peter John, UWL Vice-Chancellor, said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ricky Singh, a truly respected and loved member of our university community. 

“Ricky was an inspirational figure for our School of Law and for local people, spending much of his time helping people wherever he could, and providing so many of our students with placements and work experience to help them begin their careers in the legal profession. 

“We feel incredibly privileged to have worked so closely with Ricky and our thoughts go to his family at this incredibly sad time. His legacy and tireless work in the legal profession will certainly live on in our University and continue to inspire our students.” 

Council Leader Julian Bell also paid tribute on the social media platform twitter saying: "Incredibly saddened and shocked by the news of Ricky Singh's passing yesterday from Covid -19. Ricky was such a positive and morally driven person, always fighting on behalf of others as he called out inequality, prejudices and racism wherever he sa it. Condolences to his family.'"

 Mr Singh, a father-of eight who lived in Ealing with his wife, was Director of Ealing Equality Council and Legal Manager of the West London Equality Centre’s Community Advice Programme.
