Trial of e-scooters backed by H&F council

Last sentence of the article: "Londoners will be encouraged to only use rental e-scooters as privately owned e-scooters remain banned on public roads". No, only bicycles with electric motors are allowed on public roads (for reasons which are not entirely clear or logical). Scooters with electric motors whether privately or publicly owned are not allowed on public roads OR on pavements, full stop.Bottom line: there should be no e-scooters except on private land - not on pavements, not on the highway. They are too fast to be treated as children's scooters. And they are very dangerous when their small wheels hit pebbles on pavements or the road and then jam.

Hammersmith Bridge

The DfT is criticising H&F for being overly cautious re Hammersmith Bridge. Perhaps they’d be willing to underwrite any claims in the event that the bridge does, indeed, cause any harm. Or, since they think any required works are, in fact, minimal, perhaps the DfT could fund those. It’s outrageous that one borough should be asked to bear the costs of maintaining a key Thames bridge. Much shame on this most shabby and tribal of governments. Sorry if I sound a bit angry.

H&F Council force closure of two popular Farmers Markets ....

LBH&F Council 'temporarily' closed Bishop's Park & Ravenscourt Park Farmers Markets on 11th January.  They then notified the organisers on 17th March that both markets could reopen on 17th April.  On 10th April they sent an email saying that the markets could no longer open on 17th April ......As infection rates continue to fall and restrictions are gradually relaxed with non-essential shops now open, pubs and restaurants able to serve outside, hairdressers open, gyms open etc why are 2 outdoor food markets closed?  Please sign this petition to help get these lovely markets reopened:http://chng.it/DKfnxwzshB

Misleading information provided by energy switching company Look After My Bills to the public has been addressed by the Advertising Standards Authority. Ikea Hammersmith

You tell us that redevelopment is not due to start until 2021. In the meantime Ikea have done a pretty good job of killing off Hammersmith as a shopping destination with accelerating shop closures in the Mall. Let us hope it can only get better. There is no information for residents as to their plans, so difficult to feel positive about their takeover and the proposed rebranding of Kings Mall with a tortured made-up name.

There are thousands of people nationwide that have had nightmare experiences with these companies. Both companies will sign you up within seconds on dedicated signing up landlines but when problems arise it is virtually impossible to contact them. Telephone calls are not connected and emails to them don't get answered. There are many warnings on Trustpilot about these two companies as well. Shockingly Utility Point are under investigation by Trustpilot for offering incentives to people to post positive reviews. Look After My Bills are now also under investigation for doing the same.

Serco, the sub-contractor for the Council, do not dispute that:"...many refuse collectors have worked for months on end without taking annual leave, including to make up numbers when their colleagues have fallen sick or had to self-isolate."They deserve their holiday allowance! They had tons of extra stuff to collect over the summer when all the pubs were closed and the municipal waste baskets in parks and everywhere outside were overflowing! And they work tirelessly week in, week out. If they got this holiday allowance before Covid, they should still get it now.There is one condition: Please holiday in the UK. No foreign holidays.

To save people the agony of having to deal with a future nightmare  with Look After My Bills and Utility Point please read their horrendous reviews on Trustpilot.                                  This is an email I received from Trustpilot this week.                                                People are reading your review!Hi Neil Milkins,You recently wrote a review on Trustpilot and it looks like people find it helpful.117 people have already read your review.                                                                                                       LOOK AFTER MY BILLS SHAMBLES.It is now 12 weeks since Look After My Bills without my knowledge or permission changed my energy provider from S.S.E. to Utility Point. Jacqueline Loughman promised me 9 weeks ago that they would resolve the matter within 14 days. A week ago their senior complaints manager Daniel promised me he would phone me on (29-12-20) and have the matter resolved. No phone call and no answer to my emails to him. In the meantime I am going to have a sky high electric and gas bill when this matter is resolved. It is near impossible to get a reply from them once you have emailed and phoned them and it is totally impossible to phone Utility Point as ALL their phone lines have been cut off. I have been on the phone and emailing 19 hours in total trying to sort this mess out. Anyone thinking of going with Look After My Bills or Utility Point please check their horrendous reviews on Trustpilot.

City Tree Aims To Be Breath of Fresh Air for Lyric Square

What is the power consumption of the "City Tree" and is it using only renewable electricity? Unless it is powered using electricity only from renewable or nuclear sources this machine (it has a pump, it is a machine) is creating carbon dioxide and particulate matter elsewhere.

Hammersmith Bridge residents meeting - Council, TfL and Gov "Taskforce"

This project is bogged down by money disputes. The Gov refuses to recognise as part of a "contribution" the large sums which H&C has already spent on engineers investigating the full extent of the problems, emergency maintainance works to stop the cracks spreading and paying the PLA for boats to stand guard on either side in the river to stop boats trying to go under the bridge. Richmond Council has spent some money putting lighting on the towpath on the Surrey side and other works.Then Baroness Vere said that the councils had to make further "contributions" before the Gov would step up with most of the money for the full permanent repairs. I'm sorry but the Gov is being unreasonable. Neither Council has been reimbursed for Covid expenditure (which they were promised).The ball is in the Gov's court. They have to cough up the £140-odd millions.

New shoots iof hope in a gloomy world.

In the light of current global events what I am about to mention is trivial but it impressed me!I was in Flanchford Road today. I don't know much about the species of trees but they looked like lime trees to me.The trees lining both sides of the road had obviously been pruned sometime this year. What I found remarkable was that they are all bright green with two foot of new growth, something you would only expect in springtime.Given the the Weather Office only counts December as the start of winter. Has it really been that mild?

How much longer must pedestrians suffer  pantechnicons serving Riverside Studios completely blocking the pavement in Crisp Road. The Studios were purpose built at vast expense , and have two very large and very ugly doors that could accomodate the Titanic , yet the management still allow such vehicles to park completely across the pavement forcing pedestrians onto the street.Crisp Road is not their own private service road and it is time that this practise was stopped.

City Hall names St. Paul's Primary on list with above legal limit pollution

This is a day with no news!City Hall is waging war on the internal combustion engine. The legal limit for nitrogen dioxide and other nitrogen oxides keeps being reduced to justify the eventual aim of forcing drivers of petrol and diesel engine cars off the road.I am not saying that we should keep IC engines for cars for ever - yes, some privately owned electric cars will be needed - but let's be honest about why this story is being written. There is of course LESS pollution than ever before in London: fewer small particulates from diesel, better combustion of hydrocarbons due to electronic ignition and catalytic converters on exhausts. All this technology will be consigned to the museum when we are forced to drive electric cars.  People will forget, just as they forget how beautiful and revolutionary Concorde and supersonic air travel was (ended in 2003).

Roll out of 5G masts and cabinets on derelict land in Hammersmith and Fulham

Another planning application for a tall (18m) 5G mast and 3 "cabinets" has been published on the H&F planning portal:  2020/01963/TEL56The proposed site should elicit objections.This application at Hammersmith Council's Wandon Estate, North End Road, was published starting on 30th July. The consultation on an application for a different G5 mast on the Fulham Palace Road ended recently.Both of these applications are on small patches of underutilised, "derelict" land at a bend on a major road. Both pieces of land are owned by Hammersmith Council. The operator wants easy access at ground level for installation of supporting electrical equipment, so-called "cabinets".See this good explanation by Vodaphone: https://newscentre.vodafone.co.uk/features/mobile-phone-masts-everything-you-need-to-know/I would prefer the masts to be sited at the top of buildings, with supporting electrical equipment either in the building or buried. They should not be an eyesore for pedestrians and residents.The derelict land on which masts and cabinets are sited will attract fly-tipping and drug-dealers, i.e. illegal activities unless they are well fenced off and the grass is cut regularly. I would want to see the terms of the operator's contract with Hammersmith Council.

Go Ahead Given for Hammersmith's Tallest Building

The CGI of the proposed new hotel complex looks awful: Boring with a capital B. And of course too dense, too tall, too wide so that it would cast a huge shadow to the north, ironically across the Novotel!With many existing hotels we do NOT need another 800-bed hotel in Hammersmith Town Centre.We need something else. Perhaps something educational (but pollution is high at this site). Perhaps something wih sports activities. Perhaps something totally specialised, like a "vertical hydroponics farm" for the supermarkets nearby. These are off the cuff ideas. Just not (1) luxury flats (2) international bland hotels and (3) offices. We have plenty of all these already.Ideas to Dominus and H&F planners on a postcard (or e-equivalent!), please.

st peters litter pickers 2020

Every 1st Saturday  of the Month , The residents of St Peters meet at the Cross Keys, 57 Black lion Lane, Hammersmith
Along with the local councillors Jonathon Caleb-landy and Asif Siddique, supported by SPRA ,Serco , parks and recreation and Hammersmith and Fulham council.All equipment provided, gloves, pickup sticks, bags , tabards sanitiser along with free refreshments and kids drinks at midday for all volunteers. so far over 200 bags of litter have been cleared, rubbish from drainpipes, bike wheels have been cleared and one i pad returned to a grateful student who had had it stolen over a year ago! , still had 58% charge left!!.

Post Office Closure - A disaster for Hammersmith

The news that the post office in the shopping centre is closing is yet another blow for Hammersmith. A good proportion of my trips to King Street are made because I am going there and whilst I am there I will shop elsewhere.Isn't now the time for the government to start viewing the Post Office a key asset in binding the community together and supporting local retail trade and not as something that only exists where it can turn a profit?

Ravenscourt Park

I am currently researching the history of Ravenscourt Park and Square. NHS Urgent Care Walk-in Centres to Remain Closed

NHS NW London (the collaboration of 8 NW London CCGs) must give some hint about what it intends to do with the Hammersmith, Charing Cross and Parsons Green UCCs. It is simply not good enough to keep them closed with no news. For the last couple of months the Parsons Green one was used as a Covid testing centre. They were originally set up alongside the hospitals to offer care for minor injuries and less urgent conditions, as an alternative to trying to book an appointment with a (overstretched) GP.  If these UCCs are not being used to testing, what are they being used for?

Hammersmith and West London Peoples theatre Company

Dear Neighbours,Can you help, please? There are so many good causes at the moment,  but this could be just what we all need!  We’re going to create a new, full-length play with music about 24 hours in West London - completely created and performed by anyone in West London who fancies trying theatre.  Acting, directing, writing, producing, backstage, lighting, sound, music, social media, video, kids company, podcasts, etc.  There will be numerous ‘guest’ slots too, so other community and youth groups can get involved and showcase their talents, so please spread the word!  We then pay some of the top talent in the theatre world to come and work with us. Initially, of course, online! But we need to prove (again) that people are interested.  This is the second time we're fundraising as with The H&F Peoples Company in January made we 101% of its funding target!  It was all or nothing funding and people like Sir Derek Jacobi,  West End producers Peter Wilson and Trish Wadley, comedian Arthur Smith, journo Lynne Gardner and actors, Rebecca Raybone, (Doctors, Monsignor Renard, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, etc), Morfydd Clark, (Mina from BBC's 'Dracula' and forthcoming 'Lord of The Rings') Marc Elliot (Eastenders, Holby, etc) all contributed or are supporting the idea.  But a late final payment means we have to do it all again!  So it's the same project that succeeded before (although we've renamed it 'West London' rather than 'H&F so we know the difference!) but in order to get support again from H&F we need, again, to show people are interested.  So if you are, perhaps you could like our project on SpaceHive. Or even make a pledge!  Just £2 is the minimum and would show we have support.It will be a great new celebratory show. Looking forward to a brighter future. Hammersmith Hospital's Urgent Care Centre Closed

Imperial and NHSE have made the right decision.We are still in the initial phase (seeding and exponential growth), where the corona virus grows in small clusters from one person. It is still appearing strongly in the richer counties of the UK and richer boroughs of London: Hampshire at the top, then Westminster, then Kensington & Chelsea a bit lower and finally Hammersmith & Fulham with less than half the number of cases, i.e. a long way down the list. The virus came with travelers from China to Italy and to South Korea at about the same time, and then spread all over Europe and then finally to the USA (although Dr Clare Gerada caught it during a trip in New York OR on the flight back over two weeks ago when officially the US had no cases). We went to prevent the mixing of people further afield which spreads the virus to poorer areas. The overriding message is "Don't mix".Parsons Green Walk-in Centre is closed to the public as an UCC. It has been turned into a "Swab Hub" for gathering samples for Covid-19 testing by appointment only (http://www.fulhamsw6.com/default.asp?section=info&spage=common/hfhospitals2003.htm)The purpose of closing the Hammersmith Hospital UCC is to keep the public away from a medical facility which would otherwise, by its very nature, be filled with people with reduced immunity and with medical staff. Actually NHS medical personnel are at particular risk right now because they are not being tested regularly in order to keep themselves, when infected, away from patients. "[unfortunately p14 of the Agreement is the only missing page in the agreement online. It has been requested by an FOI but to date not provided]* The exact placement of the car parking spaces, required by condition 12 was set out in the s106 Agreement with the plan for the car parking is set out here in 'allocation of standard car parking spaces' being approved by LBHF at the following link:https://public-access.lbhf.gov.uk/online-applications/files/9CB3519BC4729C28AB975FC907402594/pdf/2010_01842_DET-PARKING_LAYOUT_269-641536.pdf* The developer Lemon Land now wishes to put these underground - in a basement car park to be constructed as the full width of the car park, notwithstanding that the site is boundaries to the north by the Thames Water sewerage tanks (to which Thames Water has objected) and Greenend Road/Worcester Drive/ Hawkshead Road houses to the south. * This is (a) not permitted under the current agreement and (b) should not be permitted should there be any attempt by the developer to vary the conditions. * A basement car park - if ever constructed would be unacceptable for the Prestolite / FQ residents as (i) this is a material change to the car parking provision they agreed - it is inferior and less convenient particularly for those with mobility issues/ young children/ anxiety, who would be required to descend into the car park by car and then walk to a single centre mid point to access stairs / a lift and then walk back a significant distance - past apartment blocks to exit the car parking site - so a longer walk than currently. Plus the added insecurity of having a lift which may break down necessitating a walk up stairs plus the lack of visibility in a basement car park which may lead to security fears, particularly if the development site has open pedestrian access. * The proposal also involves FQ residents with car parking spaces negotiating a one way basement car park and and using a single turning head at the far end of the site, whereas the existing provision permits to turn wherever they consider appropriate, without negotiating a housing development and its proposed residents (numbering more than 100 living on site). (ii) the construction of a basement car park / basic elements of the development would be (conservatively) two years during which time the existing spaces would be out of action.* There is a traffic assessment for the proposed Ealing car park development (named 'Cobbold Mews') which seemingly took place on a single day during a half term. It does not accord with residents' / neighbours experience of the car park and our own daily vehicle count shows a minimum of 80 cars on site on a daily basis

New People's Theatre Company - open to all!

We're starting a new, open-access theatre company for ANYONE who wants to get involved at any level and have top professional tuition for free!  It's for anyone who works, lives or plays in Hammersmith and Fulham.  We're going to create a new play with music about the life and times of the borough! We've just set up a website at www.MaverickPeoplesCompany.com I also JUST realised (Today!) if we can get 30 supporters by Monday (TOMOROW!) we could release up to £20k from Hammersmith and Fulham hive. The new Hammersmith and Fulham People’s Theatre Company

Can you help us make this a reality, please?  A new style of theatre company where ANYONE who wants to try theatre at ANY level can get involved.  Acting, writing, backstage, marketing, lights, sound, music, social media... there are no auditions and no interviews.  All you need to do is work, live or play in the Borough and have an interest in theatre.  We’re going to create a new musical about life in the Borough.  Probably. On the day he was selected as the Labour leader I thought he was un-electable as PM because of his far-left provenance and his steadfast refusal to take any political risks. "Leadership" is not about sitting on the fence on every single issue. The final straw was Brexit - he had to take a stance but he refused. We all know why, but still he did refuse to lead.

Do you remember a character from a childhood book as fondly as an old friend?If you do, you’ll know the magic of being able to slip into another world as and when you need to, or how books can make your world a bigger, brighter place.For bookworms especially, it’s hard to believe that anyone could see reading as anything other than empowering, or even just a pleasure. For the third of children from disadvantaged areas who leave primary school without being able to read well, often it’s nothing but a chore.That’s why we like to turn up on the doorstep, with a backpack of books, two little stools, and a pair of volunteers who know that words take you places. Every week, come rain or shine, our volunteers bring the magic of reading directly into families’ homes every week, in low-income areas across London.Doorstep Library volunteers don’t just read stories; they do the silly voices, handpick the books, and give special recommendations. By making it fun first, we get to watch children transform into budding readers. We love when parents get stuck in with the sessions too and encourage them to get involved in their children’s education.Sometimes though, we’re just there to give a bit of extra support, whether we’re passing on info about a family activity, lending an ear, or even just being a friendly face. Then, before we go, we leave behind a selection of books for each child to borrow for the week.If this sounds like the role for you, these are the basics. Bin Storage & Collection

Road works are taking place on Felgate Mews from September to December and therefore our bins are not being collected by the council. For this reason, we are having to leave the bins on the street, which is causing issues with the neighbours as they weren't picked up for two weeks.
