Brook Green Day Inspires Hammersmith's Biggest Bake-off

Home made cakes galore, art exhibition and dog show among this year's highlights

Hammersmith residents turned out in force on Saturday September  17 for the seventh annual Brook Green Day - and most appeared to have baked cakes for the special occasion.

A huge homemade cake stall was one of the most popular features of the day, which was organised by the Friends of Brook Green and held on the Western Lawn.

The dog show was also highly popular, with 50 local pooches taking part in the show, competing for titles including waggiest tale, most handsome and best dressed.

Other attractions included an art exhibition by five local artists and music from London’s talented buskers.

For children, there were fairground rides, face painting and lots of fun and games.

Joint chairman of the Friends of Brook Green, Robert Jennings said: "Brook Green Day was yet again a hugely successful community event that was really well attended this year. Many residents baked their hearts out and produced an amazing array of cakes which were so good that there were enquiries about where we had our shop.

"The dog show, the wonderful Masbro Centre face painters, the artists' tent and entertainment provided by the buskers made it our best fair to date."

He added: " We are indebted to Bellway Homes, owners of nearby Bentley Place development, for sponsoring the Buskers and Artists' tents this year, to Brook Green Vets for organising the dog show, plus our regular local estate agent sponsors Finlay Brewer, Bective Leslie Marsh, Tates, Savills, Marsh & Parsons and Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward."
