Carol Woolner, Chairman of Macmillan Cancer Relief's Chiswick Committee, handed a cheque for £12,000 to Macmillan's local Fundraising Manager, Cecilia Amies, at the Committee's AGM held in March this year. This money was the majority of the proceeds from events organised by the Committee during 2003

The aims of the Committee are twofold: To raise funds for, and to raise awareness of, the vital work of Macmillan, which seeks to provide cancer patients and their families with the best possible information, treatment and support from the moment of diagnosis onwards. New services being provided this year in West London include a specialist Macmillan chemotherapy nurse at the West Middlesex Hospital NHS Trust and a Macmillan lung cancer nurse at St Mary's Hospital Paddington.

Apart from annual events and collections, such as the World's Biggest Coffee Morning, the Committee had organised and catered for two Tennis Tournaments (in the spring and autumn), a biannual Garden Party, a Supper Quiz and an Indian Soiree.

These events could not have taken place without the generosity of Hartswood Lawn Tennis Club, who kindly loaned the club facilities at no charge, a Bedford Park family who allowed the Committee to invade their beautiful garden on a not too warm June evening, with champagne kindly donated by Derek Fletcher of Fletchers, estate agents of Turnham Green Terrace.

Macmillan Cancer Relief's Chiswick Committee would like to be able to hand over a similar sized cheque next March through the following programme of events:

May 19 Spring Tennis Tournament at Hartswood Lawn Tennis Club

June 20 Informal Recital and Garden Party at St Paul's School, Barnes

September 15 Autumn Tennis Tournament

October 23 Mexican Evening at the Parish Hall, St Michael and All Angels, Bedford Park

November 21 Concert by 'Chiswick Baroque' at St Michael and All Angels.

All events are designed to give pleasure to supporters, and invariably involve the whole committee in providing a wide selection of refreshments. Tennis comes with lunch, whilst our concerts and garden parties are accompanied by an array of delicious canapés.
