Quick Thinking Foils 'Effeminate' Crook

79 year old lady rumbles conmen in Brook Green

An attempted distraction burglary has taken place in the Brook Green area with thieves using the ruse of pretending to check for a water leak. This time the intended victim's quick thinking prevented the criminals getting away with any of her belongings.

This latest incident occurred at Plane Tree Court, 61-62 Brook Green. The 79 year old woman was alone in her flat and her front door was unlocked. She heard a knock on the door and when she got near to it, a man entered the premises without permission and stated there was a water leak upstairs. He asked her to empty her cupboard under the sink so he could check the pipes.

The lady told police that a second man remained outside. She did not see him at any point but heard his voice. She became suspicious and challenged them to present their I.D badges. The man then became scared and called to his accomplice "let's get out of here" . There was no property taken or disturbed during this incident which took place at a residential care home which is made up of single room/flats which have a small kitchen and living room with one bedroom.

The man who entered the property is described as white, 21 years old, wearing dark smart clothing, short dark brown hair, thin build, effeminate voice with English accent. Please forward this item to anyone who may have been in the vicinity at the time.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or recognises the suspects is asked to contact the officer in charge of the case, DC Cooke at Hammersmith CID or call the Crime management unit at Fulham Police Station on 0208 246 2814.
