Closure of Hammersmith's Irish Centre Denied

Rumour "absolutely not true" says council

Recent rumors of an imminent closure for Hammersmith’s Irish Centre have been dismissed by the council.

Claims that the centre will close at the end of March were rejected by a council spokesperson who said that they were “absolutely not true.”

Cllr Antony Lillis, cabinet member for community services, said "The Irish Centre provides a highly valued service and has built up a reputation as one of the country's best Irish centres. We are considering a number of ways to enhance the fantastic service it provides."

Billed as London’s premiere centre for Irish arts, the Irish Centre is funded by Hammersmith and Fulham council with assistance from The Irish Youth Foundation and The Ireland Fund G.B.

The centre provides cultural and education programmes available to Irish people of all ages as well as those from other backgrounds and cultures who want to share, enjoy and participate in quality Irish arts and cultural activities.
