Latymer Upper Head Pays Tribute to Colleague Cath Hopley

After sudden death of Hammersmith school's much loved biology teacher

Cath Hopley, teacher at Latymer Upper School who has died suddenly

On the school's website, he said: " It is with great sadness that I share the news that Cath Hopley, our much loved Biology teacher, friend and colleague, passed away yesterday evening (29 November).

"Cath was taken ill during a staff swimming session and given immediate assistance by colleagues and paramedics who were present. She was taken by ambulance to the Heart Attack Unit at Hammersmith Hospital. Very sadly doctors decided at 10pm that there was no more they could do for her. Cath was accompanied throughout her final hours by colleagues from the School.

"The entire school community is devastated by this shocking news. Miss Hopley had taught biology at Latymer since 2006 and was a popular and highly respected teacher. Her lessons were consistently outstanding and she enjoyed leading extra-curricular activities such as DoE, Skern Lodge and swimming. All staff, particularly in their early years of teaching, were grateful for her advice and support as a brilliant mentor. We will all miss her dreadfully.

"A book of remembrance will be available in the School chapel till 21 December and again from 3 January if Latymerians and colleagues would like to share their memories of Miss Hopley.

"In due course we will be looking at ways to celebrate Cath’s life and to mark her huge contribution to the Latymer community."
