Pick Up Your Post At The Library

Askew Road Library earmarked for Royal Mail depot

Hammersmith and Fulham Council has earmarked Askew Road library as a possible replacement for the Silver Road post Royal Mail depot, which will close in September next year.

The Silver Road depot serves 30,000 customers in W10 and W12, and deals with about 300 undelivered items each day. It is due to move to Premier Park in Brent, but Royal Mail intends to keep an enquiry office, where local residents can collect their mail, in the Shepherd's Bush area.

Conservative Councillor for Hammersmith and Fulham, Paul Bristow said: "There is no building currently identified but I suggested the perfect fit might be Askew Road Library. Potential premises that can house an enquiry office would be small shop outlets with disabled access, suitable storage space, security and parking. Royal Mail also is looking to extend its current hours to open over the weekend and in the afternoon."

"The library is in a very convenient spot on a busy main road; and if anything it is easier to get to than the Silver Road depot. Our next move is to arrange a visit from the Royal Mail to see if it fits their criteria for an enquiry office."
