Lillie Road Fitness Centre Reopens after £500,000 Refurb

Aimed at encouraging more residents to make use of facilities

The fantastic, new-look Lillie Road Fitness Centre, in Fulham, opened this month after more than £500,000 of refurbishment work.

A major revamp of the fitness centre, including the main group exercise studio, fitness equipment, changing rooms, reception and Wellness membership area, has been carried out over the last two months.

The aim is to encourage more local residents to make use of the leisure facilities on offer in Hammersmith & Fulham. Hammersmith Fitness & Squash Centre, in Hammersmith Broadway, has already undergone a £1 million transformation and the new £4 million Janet Adegoke Swimming Pool, in White City, opened last year. All three centres are run for H&F Council by GLL (Greenwich Leisure Limited), a not-for-profit organisation.

With memberships starting from as little as £19 per month and available for all age groups there really is no excuse not to get active. Lifestyle Plus memberships are also available for pensioners and residents on low incomes.

Residents were invited to see and try out the fabulous new facilities at Lillie Road Fitness Centre at open evenings which included tours of the new centre, free fitness centre taster sessions and prizes, including iPods, a mountain bike and memberships. The centre has signed up 50 new members in the last few days, as well as welcoming back old members.

Among the local residents trying out the new facilities was Amy Vallely (pictured), who said, "I joined as a new member last week and I come here three times a week after work. I am really impressed with what this community gym has to offer."

Jane Edrissi, who lives opposite Lillie Road Fitness Centre, said, "I have lived in this area for nearly three years and have always been a member of this fitness centre. The new facilities are excellent - much improved. The fitness machines are better and there are more of them. The new flooring in the aerobics room is also really good."

Cllr Antony Lillis, cabinet member for community and children's services, said, "We want residents of all ages to get active. That's why the council and our partners GLL are providing first-rate fitness and sports facilities at affordable rates."

Mark Sesnan, managing director of GLL, said, ''We are proud to reopen the newly refurbished Lillie Road Fitness Centre. The refurbishment of this centre is just part of our ongoing commitment with Hammersmith & Fulham Council to continually offer great fitness opportunities that are top quality, affordable and accessible to all local residents.''
