Help Imagine the Future of Hammersmith Town Centre

Competition invites people of all ages to offer their ideas

Could you help to imagine a new future for Hammersmith Town Centre?

A new ideas competition focusing on improving the town centre has been launched by HammersmithLondon and West London Link - the group of local architects and designers who are behind the proposal to replace Hammersmith Flyover with a tunnel or 'Flyunder'.

Anyone, professional and amateur, can enter their ideas for the event, which is part of the London Festival of Architecture.

The competition is now open, runs until Saturday 18 July and is offering two cash prizes.

The aim of the competition is to attract creative and interesting ideas, which will be put before elected decision makers for their consideration with the hope they can be adopted as part of the town centre improvement strategy.

The competition is open to anybody – not just architects and designers – and entries are also being encouraged from local schools or individual children.

The competition has broad entry criteria, anything can be entered as long as it improves the town centre – a public space, a building, new infrastructure, an event, a monument, or anything else.

There will be two categories: Best Hammersmith Town Centre for which there will be a first place price of £1000 and Best Under 16s Entry, for which there will be a prize of £500 which will be awarded to the school.

The judging panel will include :

• Leader of Hammersmith & Fulham Council, Stephen Cowan

• Kings Mall Shopping Centre Manager, Andrew Proctor

• HammersmithLondon BID Director, Patricia Bench

• Executive Director of the Lyric Hammersmith, Sian Alexander

• A representative from the London Festival of Architecture

Shortlisted entries will be displayed at a public exhibition in Hammersmith Town Centre. The winner will be revealed at the launch in front of an audience of entrants, architects, artists, designers, developers and local authority representatives.
