"I fully intend to be a very locally active", says newly elected MP
Newly elected local Member of Parliament, Greg Hands, has pledged this week to always put Hammersmith & Fulham first.
The Town Ward Councillor was elected Member of Parliament on Thursday 5th May, winning the seat from Labour with a majority of 5,029 votes (7.35% swing).
The swing recorded to the Conservatives in Hammersmith & Fulham was one of the five largest swings in Britain and the majority is larger than any other new Member of Parliament in inner London.
Greg is also the first Conservative MP to represent Hammersmith (as distinct to Fulham) since 1964.
Commenting, Greg said: “I am extremely honoured and privileged to have been elected the new Member of Parliament for Hammersmith & Fulham, and fully intend to be a very locally active – and ‘hands on’ MP.
“My victory last week marked an absolute rejection of Labour locally. Labour have badly let down Hammersmith & Fulham, presiding over rising crime and falling police numbers, a quarter of local secondary schools being put under special measures, a financial crisis in healthcare with the future of Charing Cross Hospital now under threat and massive hikes in taxation.
“People in Hammersmith & Fulham wanted change – and as the new MP I will fight for more police to be put on our streets, better choice for parents, lower taxes and to maintain the Charing Cross Hospital, with all of its current services, at its current site.
“Above all else, in everything that I do, I will always put the needs of Hammersmith & Fulham first – and will always be available to help and listen to local people.”
