New Stores Bring 70 Jobs to Hammersmith

Wilko and Tesco Express both open next month

Two new stores are set to open in Hammersmith over the next weeks, creating around 70 jobs between them.

Homewares chain Wilko is launching a large store in Kings Mall on Tuesday March 8, with 47 jobs created for its staff. This is a major boost for the King Street shopping centre, which has suffered from a number of closures and empty spaces in recent months.

Wilko, which already has a branch in Fulham Broadway, says it is planning a programme of launch day activities, with details coming soon.

In riverside development Fulham Reach meanwhile, a Tesco Express is opening on Parr's Way next Tuesday, February 23, staffed by 22 local people.

The store, which is close to Charing Cross Hospital will present a cheque for £500 to Imperial College Healthcare Charity on its launch day as part of its commitment to supporting the local area.

Store manager Geoff Martin said he is delighted to give money to the charity, which raises money to improve the experience for patients at the five London hospitals of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, including Charing Cross.

He says: " We are really pleased that they are coming to launch the new store and join in the celebrations with us. My new team and I are looking forward to offering shoppers a clean bright and spacious new store with fast and friendly service."

The store opens its doors to customers at 10am, and will open seven days a week 7am - 10pm. It will include a free cash machine, self-service tills, Click & Collect, mobile phone top-up facility, National Lottery counter and Costa Coffee facilities.
