Hammersmith Hit by Murraymania

Hundreds gather in the sun to watch tennis history

Hundreds of people flocked to Hammersmith's Lyric Square yesterday, June 7 to watch Andy Murray make sporting history.

The crowds were undeterred by the soaring temperatures on the hottest day of the year as they gathered in the sunshine to watch the epic final between Murray and world number one Novak Djokovic on HammersmithLondon's big screen.

The cheers reached deafening levels as Murray beat his rival in straight sets in a truly historic match.

The popular HammersmithLondon deck chairs were like gold dust, but that didn't matter to the hundreds of tennis fans who sat on the floor of the square and lined the streets to share the excitement.

The live tennis was part of HammersmithLondon's Summer Festival which continues this week with a picnic in the square on Tuesday and Wednesday July 9 and 10 and live streaming of La Rondine from the Royal Opera House on Thursday July 11.
