Ravenscourt Park Walled Garden Has New Sundial

Provided by Friends to mark 125th anniversary

A new Armillary sundial has been erected in the Walled Garden in Ravenscourt Park to mark the 125th anniversary of the opening of the Park to the public on May 19 1888.

The sundial provides a much and long needed central feature to this historic walled garden.

The sundial was commissioned by the Friends of the Walled Garden, a voluntary group who have been working in the garden for over 11 years, gardening on the first Saturday morning each month.

They obtained a Landfill Tax grant from the Western Riverside Environmental Fund (WREF). for both the sundial and for some surrounding replacement box and rosemary planting.

The sundial in galvanised steel was made by J T Pegg and Sons in Suffolk, who are famous for making the Scallop memorial to Benjamin Britten on Aldeburgh beach.

The Friends of Ravenscourt Park Walled Garden meet on the first Saturday of each month from 10:30am - 12:30pm and are keen to welcome new members.

They say they have tools and expert advice on hand so all you need to bring is yourself (and sometimes your wellies!).
