This tale of swapped lovers, stolen boys and fantastic beasts will be set in pre-war 1920s Britain where our lovers chafe against the conventions of an older generation, and seek to escape its constraints to find freedom in the forest. There they stumble upon a riotous world held forever in a golden age of magic, circus and opulent colours. Here, under the moonlight, drama, romance and madness ensue.

The Mechanicals will curry favour through the transformative power of theatre, resurrecting the glory days of pre-war West End Theatre on a music hall budget. This offers a wonderfully rich and broad musical palette, a range of dance styles and circus-inspired movement, which will transform the Shakespeare in the Squares tour into a travelling circus, rolling into town, creating a night of magic and then disappearing like a dream.

Shakespeare in the Squares is a not-for-profit touring theatre company which stages a Shakespeare play in London garden squares for one night in each venue every summer.

The productions are tailored to the individual garden squares, and the company says it works with the garden committees and other local organisations to create a unique community celebration around the play.

The aim is to provide a showcase for talented young theatre practitioners and to introduce audiences to the stars of the future. The actors are paid Equity recommended rates and the productions are innovative, exciting and of the highest professional standard.

Productions are funded through a combination of ticket sales, grants and sponsorship from local businesses and organisations.

A Midsummer Night's Dream will begin promptly at 7pm and will be over by approximately 9.30pm with St Peter's Square open for picnics from 5.30 pm.
