A New Restaurant in King Street That's All About Sharing

Piate, now open in the evenings is named after the Venetian word for plates

Hammersmith restaurant Piate

New restaurant Piate, at 300 King Street, aims to change the mind set around dining out to encourage diners to share food together around the table.

This family-run restaurant has developed a shared dining concept with a varied selection of seafood, meat, and vegetarian options with the perfect vino to match.

The concept is that diners individual plates of food, compose a selection Mezze or Tapas style and the dishes (6-8 recommended) are placed in the centre of the table to share.

The restaurant name is inspired by the Venetian word for plates.

The owner/manager is Michael Hajisoteri the son of Andreas, the founder of the original Kleftiko restaurant chain, which began in Holland Park and expanded to Chiswick, Kew and Ealing. And the restaurant is a family-run enterprise with Andreas Lawrence, Michael's son, as head chef.

"Each of our dishes are designed for two to share but not limited to this, therefore ensuring a great selection and value for money dining experience.

"We take pride in importing most of our ingredients from the Mediterranean and source the fresh produce from local independent suppliers that guarantee we can provide you with the best sourced products and highest quality ingredients."

Their meat & poultry is from Macken Brothers in Chiswick, with Fresh Fish from Blue Ocean Fishmongers in Pitshanger Lane. The wine list has been developed with The Good Wine shop and their Cheese is made in Cheshunt by Kupros dairy. Vegetables are delivered fresh from the Market by Dimitris.

They say that the food will be fresh, honest, home-cooked and uncomplicated. The dining room has a warm feel, with its hint of modern style, brown chairs, and crisp white Marble top tables finished off with a collection of Ken Maroney Sketches.

The restaurant recently opened with a taster menu donating all food revenue to cancer charity Macmillan.

Andreas creates diverse menus of fresh, high-quality ingredients that change seasonally with weekly specials. A Mediterranean wine list covers a nice selection of Spanish Greek and Italian wines by the bottle a small collection by the glass and will be changing monthly giving diners the opportunity to explore new wines.

Owner/Manager Michael deems his list "approachable, diverse, and value-oriented, mixing unique boutique wines with more familiar labels."

Piate will hosts tastings organised around themes such as a particular varieties or regions in the future. Managing partner Cathy suggests the lightly battered kalamari with homemade lemon mayo or tenderstem broccoli topped with honey chili pine nuts or hand wrapped spinach and fettle parcels (fettle being London feta). King prawns topped with honey lemon sesame seeds lamb cutlets, supplied by Macken Brothers, are also popular.

Vegan and gluten-free items are available upon request.
