Affordable childcare places for working parents

If you have a child under 5 find out how this programme could help you

Hundreds of local subsidised childcare places are up for grabs as the London Development Agency continues to support working parents and those wanting to get back into employment.

With Childcare costs 25% more expensive in London than elsewhere in the country, the Childcare Affordability Programme (CAP) will enable parents to access high quality affordable childcare giving them greater flexibility.

The £33m programme, which is jointly funded with the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), is already proving successful with more than 500 families in Brent benefiting from subsidised childcare.

Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London said, “This is important for thousands of families across London. Funding is now in place which will ensure that more families will have access to fulltime day-care – this could be the equivalent of an extra £1,500 a year for some families. There will also be much-needed flexible childcare for part-time workers.”

Manny Lewis, Chief Executive of the LDA said, “For many London families the prohibitive costs of quality childcare act as a barrier to employment. We will provide childcare that is cost-effective and available at times that enables them to contribute to the London economy.

“Even if you are in work at the moment, please pick up the phone to see whether you are eligible. CAP could make a huge difference to both a parent’s life as well as the whole family.”
