Hundreds of drunken fans are dispersed by riot police

 

Violence erupted outside Fulham Broadway tube on Wednesday night (May 21), when more than 200 drunken fans clashed with police close to Chelsea’s Stamford Ground.

 

The trouble started after Chelsea’s defeat against Manchester United in the Champions League in Moscow.

 

Hundreds of fans who had been drinking in Fulham pubs ended

up on the streets, began chanting songs and hurling objects at police and passers-by.

 

After 11pm the Broadway was sealed off by 100 policemen, police riot vans were called to the scene and officers in riot gears charged the crowds to disperse them

 

Some suffered minor head wounds and facial injuries in the fray, during which supporters pelted police cars and ambulances with missiles.

 

A Scotland Yard spokesman said the main disturbance was under control by around midnight.

He said: "There were around 200 people gathered in Fulham Broadway who became noisy and abusive.

"Disorder started with objects being thrown.

 

"Officers from the Territorial Support Group provided assistance to local officers. A number of arrests were made before the remainder of crowd were dispersed."
