Safer Neighbourhood Officer Launches Dogwatch

Following reports of anti social behaviour and drug dealing on Stamford Brook Common

After local dog walkers highlighted to their local police team low level anti social behaviour taking place in their local park, PC Davina Stokes introduced “Dog Watch”.

Similar to neighbourhood watch but for dog walkers, they become the eyes and ears of the local area and pass on any information to their local police.

On Saturday 9th June Dog Watch was launched in Stamford Brook Common with the help of RSPCA Inspector Annie Simmons, Veterinary Nurse Emma Winter from Pet Care on Chiswick High Road and supported by Blinkers (UK) Ltd who provided flashing safety blinkers to attach to dog collars for better visibility at night.

Officers from the Dog Support Unit also attended with 4 month old puppies who are being trained as working police dogs.

PC Stokes said “The day was a great success with almost 40 people having now signed up to the scheme and we are looking for more people who walk in Stamford Brook Common to sign up. Since advertising the launch day in the park the dog walkers have already noticed a reduction in the behaviour reported. We are also hoping to introduce the scheme to other parks in the Chiswick area.”
