The road was closed at 5am Tuesday morning after an incident involving a fuel lorry close to the Tesla garage by Hogarth Roundabout. Both the eastbound and westbound carriages were affected by the spillage which required a resurfacing of the road after it had been cleaned up.

The eastbound carriageaway was closed between junction 3 on the M4 and the Hogarth roundabout in Chiswick to allow for emergency resurfacing work. There were substantial delays throughout West London with traffic being diverted onto the M40.

Transport for London announced the reopening of the road in both directions at 1.53pm
