This Week's Industrial Action on the Tube Suspended

Strike was due to take place on Piccadilly & Hammersmith and City lines

Tube union RMT has confirmed that 24 hours of strike action on the Piccadilly & Hammersmith and City lines in separate disputes involving drivers has been suspended. The industrial action would have disrupted services from Tuesday evening (6 December) through the following day.

The unions say that talks with London Underground at ACAS were successful and that they are committed to further talks aimed at a long term agreement on the Hammersmith and City Line.

General Secretary Mick Cash said, “Talks with London Underground have proved to be positive and focussed and as a result we have been able to make enough significant progress to allow us to suspend the strike action in both disputes that was scheduled for tomorrow evening.

“There is no question that the advances we have made have been down to the strength and resilience of our members in the workplace backed up by a determined and professional negotiating team. The solidarity that led to the resounding ballots for action has been absolutely decisive."

The strikes had been called due to two separate disputes over a ‘wholesale breakdown’ in industrial relations with London Underground (LU), 'breaches of procedures and bullying and harassment of staff'. 400 drivers would have been involved involved in the action.

On the Piccadilly line there are a number of issues include LU’s Signal Passed at Danger policy, the final say on serviceability of a train and the Attendance at Work Policy.

The dispute on the Hammersmith and City Line was over what the union claimed was a heavy handed and aggressive management and a disregard for agreed policies and procedures.

Strikes on Southern Rail services are still set to proceed. ‎

Planned Southern rail strike dates:
Tuesday 6 December to Thursday 8 December
Thursday 22 December to Saturday 24 December
Saturday 31 December to Monday 2 January

December 9, 2016
