Emery Walker's House Wins Love London Award

One of the most popular and best preserved Arts & Crafts homes

The best preserved Arts & Crafts home in Britain has been voted the Most Loved Local Culture Spot in Hammersmith in Time Out’s Love London Awards.

For the past five weeks, people all over the city have been voting for their favourite restaurants, bars, shops, parks and other local spots. Now, after attracting 65,033 votes, the results have been revealed and Emery Walker’s House, has won yet another accolade.

Last year, the small, but perfectly preserved house museum was shortlisted for the prestigious Museum Opening of the Year Award by Apollo magazine. These Awards celebrate major achievements in the art and museum worlds and Emery Walker’s House was one of just six international museums shortlisted in the opening category.

Now, just one year after reopening, Emery Walker’s House, a modest Georgian terraced house crammed with Arts & Crafts treasures has established itself as the favourite cultural haunt in Hammersmith for London’s Time Out readers.

Despite its modest size and fragility, which requires that only eight visitors may visit on just two days a week, it has attracted visitors from far and wide who appreciate its authentic interiors home and the devoted guides who host tours on Thursdays and Saturdays. Tours can be booked on its website at emerywalker.org.uk, which has recently added a virtual tour to make it more accessible to the public.

Michael Hall, Chair of The Emery Walker Trust, said, “We are delighted to have been named Most Loved Culture Spot in Hammersmith in Time Out’s Love London awards. This is very much a people’s choice and reflects not only the charm and authenticity of Emery Walker’s House, but also on the warm welcome visitors receive from our expert volunteers who bring the stories of the House and its inhabitants to life.”
