Ravenscourt Park councillor to stand for second time in next month's General Election

Charlie Dewhirst has been selected as the Conservative Candidate for the constituency of Hammersmith in the coming General Election.

Mr Dewhirst, who has been a councillor in Ravenscourt Park for seven years, came second to Labour's Andy Slaughter in the 2015 General Election, gaining over 36% of the vote.

This year, on 8 June he will once again be standing against Andy Slaughter, as well as Joyce Onstad, who is standing for the Lib Dems. Other parties have still to announce their candidates.

On his website he says: " I moved to Hammersmith to take up a job in sports journalism shortly after graduating from Edinburgh University, having grown up in Yorkshire when I was younger. As a journalist I covered sports such as football, rugby union and horse racing before taking that experience into the business world to represent a wide variety of organisations.

"I didn't get involved in politics until my mid-twenties. I wanted to make a difference, but realised that to do so I had to give my time and energy to politics, so I followed my head and heart and joined the Conservative Party. I worked at the grassroots for a number of years and in 2010 it was a privilege to be elected as a Councillor for Ravenscourt Park Ward, a position I have held for seven years now. I very much enjoy campaigning on behalf of local residents, helping to solve their problems and ensuring that all their concerns are heard and understood by the local Council, a skill I will take to Parliament if elected as your MP.

"Hammersmith is a fantastic place to live and work and I'm proud to call it home. It is an area of great diversity, which is to be celebrated, but many residents do face daily challenges that we can still do more to fix, and where the local Labour party continuously falls short. It is my priority to ensure that those who need my help most will receive my fullest support."

UK Polling Report has described Hammersmith as a "semi marginal" seat, and lists it among 82 seats which could change hands through a 10% swing to the Tories.
