Protests Planned at Hammersmith Campus Today

Lecturers angry at budget cuts which put 85 jobs at risk

Members of the University and College Union (UCU) at all four sites of Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College will be protesting against funding cuts and job losses today, February 28 between noon and 2pm.

Lecturers are angry at the college’s plans to make £5m worth of cuts, which has put 85 staff at risk of redundancy. The protests will involve staff and students at the Southall, Ealing, Acton and Hammersmith campuses.

UCU said it is also planning to ballot its members at the college for strike action.

Tim Dalrymple, lead UCU negotiator at the college, says:
" Staff have felt let down by senior management over a series of years and fail to understand why they must pay the price for mistakes made by those at the top.

"This protest is just the start of our campaign of opposition to these cuts."
