Priority Shopping Hours in Local Supermarkets and Foodstores


Find the times reserved for the elderly, NHS staff and social care workers

Supermarkets and food stores across the borough are offering priority shopping hours for older and vulnerable people, NHS staff and social care workers.

The joint operation, with the big names swapping competition for cooperation, is part of a campaign to Feed the Nation during the current crisis.

Here's what they are offering:

Sainsbury’s Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, all supermarket stores are dedicating 8am to 9am to elderly, disabled and vulnerable customers and every Monday to Saturday from 7:30am to 8am for NHS and Social Care workers (ID required).

Iceland Monday to Saturday, the first hour of trading is be a priority hour for elderly and vulnerable people and the final hour of trading for NHS staff only (ID required).

Marks and Spencer Reserving the first hour of trade every Monday and Thursday for more vulnerable and elderly customers and the reserved first hour on Tueday and Friday for NHS and emergency service workers.

Waitrose The first opening hour in supermarkets is dedicated to elderly and vulnerable shoppers, as well as those who look after them. Waitrose shops also are setting aside a proportion of hard-to-find and essential products exclusively for NHS staff, on production of an NHS card, and there is a priority checkout service for NHS staff.

Tesco Introducing a priority shopping hour every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 9am and 10am for vulnerable and elderly customers (not available in Express stores).

Co-op. All stores have a dedicated shopping hour for those at higher risk and the people who care for them. Check with local store for details.

Wholefoods Special hours for the over 70s, from Monday to Saturday: 9am-10am.

Many stores are bringing in extra safety measures including perspex screens on tills, controlled entry and marks on the floor to encourage social distancing. Customers are also asked to use cards rather than cash.
