Town Hall Flag Flies at Half Mast for Margaret Thatcher


Former Prime Minister died on April 8 following stroke

Hammersmith and Fulham Council has announced that the Union Flag is flying at half-mast over Hammersmith Town Hall today to mark the passing of Baroness Thatcher.

Former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, 87, died peacefully this morning (April 8) after suffering a stroke.

Lady Thatcher was prime minister from 1979 to 1990 and was the first woman to hold the role.

Cllr Greg Smith, H&F Council Deputy Leader, said: "Baroness Thatcher made a huge impact on Britain and across the globe. She will never be forgotten."

Greg Hands, Conservative MP for Chelsea and Fulham tweeted about his memories of Baroness Thatcher: "Terrible news about Lady Thatcher. Was Britain's greatest post-War PM, always very kind to me & made a huge difference to my C& F constits.

"Was enormously privileged to be asked by Conservative Way Forward in 2005 to deliver a speech in Lady T's presence, very honoured to have the opportunity."

He added: " The loss of Lady Thatcher will be felt hard in the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, with its Margaret Thatcher Infirmary & chapel where she prayed."
