Give Your Views on Affordable Housing in the Borough

Deadline looming on opportunity to shape council's strategy

Hammersmith & Fulham Council (H&F) is encouraging residents to give their views on the future of affordable housing in the borough.

H&F is currently consulting on the Housing Allocation Scheme, Home Buy Allocation Scheme and the Tenancy Strategy as part of the wider housing strategy and residents have until Wednesday 16 September to give their views.

The proposals were discussed by the council’s Economic Regeneration, Housing and the Arts Policy & Accountability Committee when it met in July, but further views are still welcomed to help H&F shape any future policy.

“There is a real paucity of housing across the capital so it is imperative that we work closely with residents to ensure the council’s social housing and affordable homes are allocated appropriately,” said Cllr Lisa Homan, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing.

At July’s meeting, councillors and residents discussed various topics, including:

Housing Allocation Scheme – How should council homes be allocated when they become vacant? Who should get priority?

Tenancy Strategy – Should council tenancies be secure (or ‘lifetime’) or fixed term?

Home Buy Allocation Scheme – Who should get priority when allocating low cost home
ownership and other types of ‘intermediate’ housing, for people on low to medium incomes?

A full summary of the key proposals in the housing strategy consultation, including a presentation, can be found online.

If you would like to comment on the proposals, email housingconsultation@lbhf.gov.uk before Wednesday 16 September.

H&F’s housing strategy was finalised following a consultation with residents earlier this year.
