Pedestrian airlifted to hospital after being hit by a van on Monday

A man is in critical condition in hospital after being hit by a van on Hammersmith Broadway, at around 5pm yesterday, October 26.

The horrific accident took place on the west side of the Broadway close to St Paul's Church, and after treatment at the scene, the victim was airlifted to hospital by London's Air Ambulance.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police says: "Police were called at 5.02pm on to Hammersmith Broadway, following reports of a van in collision with a pedestrian.

"Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended.

"London's Air Ambulance also attended and took the pedestrian, a man, to a central London hospital where he remains in a critical condition."

Police added that the driver of the van stopped at the scene and was not arrested.

The accident led to widespread road closures and widespread traffic chaos, with TfL advising drivers to avoid the area.

This is the second serious accident within a week involving a collision with a van. On Thursday October 22, a female cyclist was hit by a van on Fulham Palace Road, close to the junction with Lillie Road. She was taken to hospital with injuries which police said were not thought to be life-threatening.
