Have a Free Ride on a Santander Cycle this Weekend

Free access weekend aims to encourage newcomers to try the service

People keen to try cycling can take advantage of Santander Cycles' free access weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

Bikes will be free to hire on 22 and 23 August, with all 30-minute journeys included.

The free access weekend aims to give people a chance to try the scheme for the first time and if you're a regular user, it is a chance to pedal around the Capital for 30 minutes without paying a penny.

The popular cycle scheme celebrated its fifth anniversary last month, notching up nearly 43 million journeys made since its launch. In March 2016, Santander Cycles will expand eastwards into Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and an additional 1,000 docking points are planned within the existing zone.

How does it work?

1.Hire
Download the Santander Cycles app and register for 24-hour membership. Use the app to hire now from a nearby docking station and get your release code. Alternatively, go to a docking station with your bank card and follow the on-screen instructions

2.Ride
Tap your code into the docking point, adjust the saddle height and you're good to go

3.Return
Push the bike back firmly into any empty docking point and wait for the green light

The free access weekend will mean that users are not charged the daily £2 fee. Remember, you will be charged for journeys longer than 30 minutes or if you damage a bike or don't return it.
