Enjoy a Year's Free Membership of Bluecity Electric Car Club

Find out about special deal on new hire scheme at Lyric Square 'eco fair'

Residents of Hammersmith and Fulham are being offered a year’s free membership of new electric car club, Bluecity.

The council says it has also teamed up with Bluecity and charging points provider Source London to offer more electric vehicle charging points than any other London borough.

Bluecity will launch during a special 'eco fair' in Lyric Square, Hammersmith, on Wednesday 26 April, from 11am. The event will include a celebration of all the environmental work done so far as well as showcasing future green schemes.

Bluecity is an electric car club, a bit like borrowing a Santander cycle, where you can pick up a car from any local charging point.

H&F already has a network of 85 on-street electric vehicle charging points, including in residential streets, which is expected to grow to 150 by this summer.

Across London meanwhile there already over 850.

You can see a map of points in the borough which are already operational and those coming soon on Source London's website.

Car club members can use any of these charging points.

Bluecity cars create no exhaust emissions, so you can drive around safe in the knowledge you’re not contributing to local air pollution levels as well as helping to combat climate change.

Club members will be able to reserve a vehicle 30 minutes in advance and can leave it in one of the many compatible charging bays across London, which can be found via the app.

If you live and work in H&F, you can pick up a voucher with details for the offer during the eco fair on 26 April. Alternatively, you can register online and use the code EARLYBIRD.

The deal entitles drivers to a year’s free membership (usually £5 per month) and 20 hours of driving (usually 17p per minute, with a minimum charge of £3.40).

Users will be able to reserve a vehicle 30 minutes in advance and can leave it in any charging bay in any of the 16 London boroughs which are signed up to Source London.

"We want to become the greenest borough in the country and Bluecity is a major boost to this ambition by making electric cars accessible and affordable to residents," said Cllr Stephen Cowan, Leader of H&F Council.

"We worked hard to negotiate this offer and hope many residents take it up.

"We’d also love to see people come down to our eco fair and find out about the great work that’s been done to help encourage and protect wildlife and green spaces in H&F."

The eco fair will be open from11am till 2pm 26 April and as well as information about the electric car club, it will include a range of stalls showcasing environmental projects past and future. Visitors will be able to find out about how to help bees in London, keep fuel bills down, recycle more, plant a community garden and more.
