Grant Morris died in blaze in Guinness Trust Buildings

A man who died in a fire at a flat on Fulham Palace Road has been named as 59 year-old Grant Morris.

London Fire Brigade says firefighters found Mr Morris in a fire-damaged section of a second-floor flat in the Guinness Trust Buildings in Fulham Palace Road, Hammersmith, on Saturday May 18.

Fire crews from Hammersmith fire station spent almost an hour fighting the blaze. The Brigade says it was called at 4.13pm and the fire was under control by 5.09pm.

At an initial inquest on at West London Coroners’ Court, the provisional cause of Mr Morris' death was given as smoke inhalation and burns, as well as a coronary artery atheroma, a type of sudden cardiac death.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Libby Jones, head of health and safety for Guinness South, which looks after the Guinness Trust Buildings, said that the flat was fitted with a smoke detector and that the fire was contained within the flat. She added: " We would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased resident."
