Eleven parks and open spaces across the borough have retained their Green Flag status – an award from Keep Britain Tidy that recognises parks with the highest standards of cleanliness, horticulture and facilities.

The sites are:

Frank Banfield Park 
Ravenscourt Park 
Margravine Cemetery 
Normand Park 
St. Peter’s Square 
Hammersmith Park 
Norland North Open Space 
South Park 
Hurlingham Park 
Brook Green 
Bishop’s Park and Fulham Palace

They are among 1,582 green spaces listed across the UK, including 358 in Greater London, which will all be flying the flag.

The Green Flag Awards are judged by more than 700 experts, who volunteer their time to visit applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.

The announcement of the awards coincides with Love Parks Week (24 July – 2 August), an annual celebration of the country’s green spaces and the communities that use them.

" We are delighted that so many of our fantastic parks and open spaces have Green Flag status –it is a testament to the hard work of those who maintain them and the close involvement of local residents, through friends groups and other associations," said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.

" We are lucky to have these beautiful pockets of green space in H&F and I am determined to protect and enhance them for the future."

The Green Flag scheme is now extending beyond the UK with Holland, Australia, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates among the international participants.
