Lyric Square Hosts Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday

Local people invited to drop in chat to specialist nurses and support professionals

Lyric Square is hosting a public Cancer Awareness Event tomorrow, Saturday, 12 May with cancer nurse specialists and support professionals on hand to answer questions about cancer and highlight the range of cancer support services available in north west London.

Over 40 nurses will be on hand from eight different cancer specialist teams including breast, lung and gastro-intestinal cancers, as well as information and support professionals from Macmillan Cancer Support, Maggie’s Centre, pictured below in its Fulham Palace Road site and The Mulberry Centre.

There will be free mindfulness and relaxation sessions running throughout the day, and specialist advice on preparing for surgery and suitable exercise programmes, including an opportunity to win a Fitbit.

The event is part of a partnership between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support, and fittingly takes place on this year’s International Nurses Day.

It is aimed at anyone who wants to know more about cancer, such as signs to look out for, common investigations and treatments, regardless of whether they have a diagnosis, and how to improve wellbeing after treatment ends.

There's no need to RSVP; just stop by Lyric Square in Hammersmith between 10am and 4pm to speak to cancer specialists.
