Friday 7th December, Papagena – The Darkest Midnight , 8pm - St Luke’s, Uxbridge Road, W12

No props, microphones or gimmicks; just five exquisite female voices form Papagena, whose beauty of singing has been compared to that of the Hilliard Ensemble, yet whose programming defies pigeonholing. Papagena juxtaposes classical repertoire with traditional folk, medieval and contemporary music to create programmes that can span nine centuries, from 12 th century abbess Hildegard of Bingen to Joni Mitchell, from Byzantine hymns to lilting Celtic ballads to Norwegian lullabies, from Purcell to Katy Perry.

The ensemble has toured nationwide, made its Radio 3 live debut in March 2018 in the BBC’s International Women’s Day Concert (subsequently selected as a Radio 4 Pick of the Week) and been chosen as one of Making Music’s Selected Artists for 2019/20. Papagena will be bringing advent and seasonal music to KOFMA, from their brand new winter CD The Darkest Midnight.
