Hammersmith Grove is Going Green for World Car Free Day

Join the eco-party on astro-turfed road on Friday 21 September

Hammersmith Grove is - literally - going green on Friday 21 September, which has been designated as both World Car Free Day and London Car Free Day.

To mark the occasion, the southern end of Hammersmith Grove will be closed for a garden party with part of the road astro-turfed to turn it green.

H&F Council says the party aims to give residents the chance to discuss and explore ways to reduce road congestion and improve air quality over a picnic.

There will be tables and chairs where local people can enjoy lunch in the open air and enjpoy the sound of a steel band, which will be playing throughout the day.

Guests can also explore the four new 'parklets'. or community green spaces recently installed along Hammersmith Grove.

They will have the opportunity to try out a smoothie bicycle, which blends your drink as you pedal, a cargo bike, an electric bike and even an electric scooter, as well as getting advice on alternative means of transport to help reduce road congestion and improve air quality in the area.

If you already have a bicycle, you can get it serviced by Dr Bike, security marked by the police and find out how to get secure cycle parking in your area of the borough.

Glenthorne Road and Hammersmith Grove will be closed on the day from 6am- 8pm.

You can find more information on what the council is doing to make our borough greener, and how you can join in here.
