Visitors Welcome this Weekend for Open House London 2016


Your chance to explore the borough's most fascinating buildings

The annual Open House London weekend sees the doors of 16 buildings with historic or architectural interest open to visitors on September 17 and 18.

In Hammersmith, there is the opportunity to take an architect led tour of the new office building 12 Hammersmith Grove, and visit the fascinating Victoria & Albert Museum study centre at Blythe House in Blythe Road.

Other buildings opening their doors are the William Morris Society’s Kelmscott House in Upper Mall, the Kenneth Armitage Foundation in W14 and the award-winning Maggie's Cancer Care Centre by Charing Cross Hospital in Fulham Palace Road.



In Talgarth Road, visitors are invited to two local landmarks, LAMDA, the oldest drama school in the UK and the nearby Colet House, a unique studio for artists.

In Fulham, visitors are invited to the Hurlingham Club, and ROCA London Gallery, designed by the practice of the late Zaha Hadid and Fulham Palace, where there are opportunities to tour areas normally closed to the public.

In Shepherd's Bush, hard hat tours of the Bush Theatre have sold out. However there is an opportunity to see the Television Centre masterplan in Wood Lane, courtyard building 27 Bulwer Street and two of the borough's most unusual spaces - Bridget Joyce Square sustainable drainage scheme and the Tin House, which is in the running for The Royal Institute of British Architecture's ‘House of the Year 2016’.

The Erno Goldfinger designed Greenside Primary School, meanwhile is opening its doors on Sunday from 12noon-5pm for its Bouncing off the Wall! 20C Graphic Arts Fair in the hall, plus vintage tea room and tours of the building.

There is also a talk at 1pm and an exhibition: Modern Toys for Modern Children: Goldfinger, Abbatt Toys and Greenside School, plus book launch and signing for 3 Storeys by Design for Today and Esther Cox - inspired by Modernist movement in British Architecture. Last entry is at 4.30pm with a maximum of 50 people at one time.
