Sacred Heart High Has Borough's Best GCSE Results

Hammersmith girls' school achieved pass rate of 92% in 2014

School pupils in Hammersmith & Fulham achieved the third best GCSE results in inner London, with Sacred Heart High School in Hammersmith proving the borough's star performer.

The Brook Green girls' school had a staggering pass rate of 92% at five or more GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English and maths - a one per cent increase on 2013.

Sacred Heart headteacher, Marian Doyle, says " We are delighted that for the third year the achievements of our pupils have continued to rise - testimony to the hard work of pupils and staff with excellent support from parents and carers."

Other high scoring schools included London Oratory in Fulham which had a pass rate of 86% at five or more GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English and maths, though this was down one per cent on the previous year.

Burlington Danes Academy in White City achieved a two per cent pass rate increase from a 77% pass rate at five or more GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English and maths in 2013 to 79%.

Phoenix High School meanwhile showed the biggest year-on-year improvement of all the borough's schools. The new education figures show that the Shepherd's Bush secondary bumped up its pass rate by 10%, from 38% to 48%.

Delighted executive headteacher Alan Streeter, says: " The improved results at Phoenix are a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers and unwavering support from parents.

" These results were achieved despite the many changes to performance measures and the curriculum in 2013/14 that we had to circumnavigate in order to ensure our students achieved the best possible outcomes."

These latest figures released this week by the Department for Education show 66% of H&F students passed five or more GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English and maths.

The results place the borough well above the national average of 53% and higher than the inner London average of 60%, being out-performed only by neighbouring boroughs, Kensington and Chelsea (74%) and Westminster (68%).

"These results cement the borough's schools among the top performers in London and rank us fourteenth nationally. It makes me immensely proud of the great work being performed across all of our schools by dedicated teachers and diligent students," says Sue Macmillan, H&F Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Education.
