Motorists Warned of Roadworks across Borough

Starting with North End Road closure from February 17

Residents, motorists and commuters are being warned about a series of road works across the borough over the coming weeks, which the council says will improve the highways network.

The closures begin with North End Road, which will be closed in both directions from February 17 for four nights between 7pm and 4am, with the work finishing in the early hours of Friday morning. This is to allow the council’s contractor to resurface the carriageway between the A4 Talgarth Road and Fitzjames Avenue.

Local diversions will be in place and variable message signs (VMS) will be in place in North End Road next week warning motorists in advance of the works beginning.

Also in North End Road, this time at the junction of Lillie Road, there will be essential works from March 1-6 to unblock and replace old gullies, which will help drain away rain water and prevent flooding in the area.

This means a full road closure between Lillie road and Bramber Road for six days. As this is one of the borough’s busiest roads, the council is extending working hours to 8am-8pm every day, so that the job is completed as quickly as possible.

Cllr Victoria Brocklebank-Fowler, cabinet member for transport and technical services, says: " No one likes road works but these are essential improvements that will help everyone in the borough in the long-term. This is about getting the basics right, making sure our road surfaces are easy to drive and cycle over, and banishing pot holes, which everyone hates.

" We know how important our roads are and these improvements will be carried out as quickly as possible, and with as little disruption as possible to residents and road users."

Resurfacing work means that there will be road closures or traffic lights in place at main roads in the borough, and there will be signed diversions and advance warning notices on approaching roads. The work could lead to possible delays, so motorists should factor in more time for their journeys.

- February 15-22: There will be two-way traffic lights at Munster Road, between Bronsart Road and Dawes Road.

- February 24-27: Wood Lane will be fully closed from Du Cane Road to North Pole Road overnight for three nights, 9pm to 5am the following morning.

- March 10-15: Shepherds Bush Road will be fully closed from Hammersmith Broadway to Brook Green from 9pm-4am. Work will begin with one lane closure (though two-way traffic will still be maintained) from 7pm.
