Fallen Tree Branches Engulf Car on Lillie Road

Driver not seriously hurt but road closed and traffic diverted

The junction of Lillie Road and Fulham Palace Road was closed for several hours during the evening of Tuesday July 29, after a large section of a tree on the edge of Lillie Road Recreation Ground sheered off and engulfed a passing car.

A police officer at the scene said the driver of the car, an elderly lady, was not seriously injured but had been taken to nearby Charing Cross Hospital suffering from shock.

As police and council officers waited for the tree to be removed, the road remained closed and buses were diverted, but just before 10pm TfL reported that the road was now reopened with traffic flowing well.

This picture of the scene was tweeted by @BJ_London, who commented: "Huh, you don't see that every day."
