Thames Water Warns of Works in Fulham Palace Road in January

No access from Hammersmith Gyratory for nine days from 5 January

The work, which will see engineers install monitoring equipment on a large clean water main will begin at midnight on Friday January 5 and is expected to be finished on Sunday January 14.

During this time there will be no access to Fulham Palace Road from the Hammersmith Gyratory, except for buses, bicycle and emergency vehicles.

Thames Water says the innovative monitors will help Thames Water better detect leaks meaning they can be fixed more quickly, reducing the risk of interruptions to water supplies or bursts.

The work have been prioritised as this water system supplies Charing Cross Hospital.

Engineers will work on the project 24/7 to get the job done as quickly as possible but will aim to carry out the noisiest work between 8am and 8pm.

Thames Water customer coordinator Tina Enright said: "We appreciate our work will cause disruption so we’re giving people advanced notice.

"This job has been many months in the planning with Hammersmith and Fulham Council and Transport for London to get the arrangements just right and we hope people will understand the importance of the work we’re going to do. Feedback from our customers is that they want to see us investing to improve our pipes, but in some places it’s impossible to do so without causing some disruption.

"We’re determined to make sure disruption is kept to a minimum though and the job finished as soon as it possibly can be."

Thames Water says it has already written to residents and businesses on Fulham Palace Road and in the wider area to explain how the work will impact buses and general traffic.

"The works have to be done, so our hands are tied, but we have insisted Thames Water works as quickly as possible, with the minimum disruption to our residents," said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.

Warning signs will be placed on all approach roads to notify motorists of the closure and fully-signed diversion routes will guide all traffic around the works.

Live road travel information is available from www.tfl.gov.uk/trafficnews and @TFLTrafficNews on Twitter.

During the closure, bus stop N on Fulham Palace Road will be suspended. There will be a notice with more information at the stop.

The northbound bus lane on Fulham Palace Road will also be suspended between Chancellor’s Road and Hammersmith Gyratory. Journeys on routes 190, 211, 220, 295, N11 and N97 may take longer.
