Southern Trains Add Extra Carriages

Offering more space for passengers on West London line

Passengers travelling on Southern trains on the West London Line, which includes local stations at Shepherd's Bush, Olympia, West Brompton and Imperial Wharf are benefiting from extra space.

By the late summer, most Southern trains on the line will have been lengthened either to five coaches or doubled in size to eight coaches.

Southern says platform lengthening at Clapham Junction, Imperial Wharf, West Brompton and Shepherd’s Bush plus the introduction of another 40 new carriages into the fleet has enabled it to lengthen trains on this very busy line.

Southern’s New Train Introduction Manager, Andy Richards says: “We are delighted for our passengers on one of our busiest routes. Some journeys into and out of London should be more comfortable and it will get even better with more new trains coming to the line."

The introduction of the 40 new carriages on the West London Line completes Southern’s investment in new trains during the current franchise, bringing the total number of additional carriages on its network to 227 since the start of the franchise in 2009 – resulting in a net gain of over 10,000 extra seats.

The West London line service runs between Milton Keynes Central and South Croydon and Watford and Clapham Junction, sharing the line with London Overground's service.
