Residents Reminded to Register to Vote

To make their voices heard in upcoming London elections

H&F Council is reminding residents now is the time to register to vote in the upcoming London elections.

The capital’s new mayor and members of the London Assembly will be decided this year. But at the council points out, if you are not registered to vote, you won’t have a voice.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council will be sending out letters to residents at the end of February to let them know if they are registered to vote.

Annd it says you are not currently registered or have recently moved into the borough, it’s extremely important that you complete the registration, which is quick and easy.

To register online, simply visit Register to Vote. It only takes a few minutes but you need to have your National Insurance number to hand.

" There are important elections coming up this year which will decide the future of London and we want all local residents to be able to have their say," says Nigel Pallace, Returning Officer for Hammersmith & Fulham.

" Check if you’re registered to vote. And sign up if you need to. Registering to vote is quick and easy. Don’t miss out on votes which affect your life," he adds.

The voter registration system was changed by the government in June 2014. Instead of the previous system of registering by household, every person now has to register themselves individually. The council is then required to check all of the details before residents are added to the electoral register, so it is important that residents act quickly to make sure their applications are processed in time for the elections.

H&F Council says being registered to vote may also improve your credit score, making it easier to get a mortgage, mobile phone contract or a loan as the electoral roll is used by credit rating companies.
