Tube and Train Services Hit by Big Storm


Monday morning sees cancellations and suspensions across network

Transport for London says that London Overground Services will not operate before 9am on Monday, and there are suspensions and severe delays across the tube network.

TfL adds that road users are advised to take extra care, and all road and public transport users are advised to check for the latest updates before travelling with service providers and the Met Office.

And South West Trains are not planning to run trains before 8am, and have told people not to travel all day if possible. They are warning that a much reduced service will operate.

The Mayor of London's office has set up a web page called London Resilience offering advice on preparing for the storm, and you can also follow its up to the minute advice on Twitter at London_Prepared.

The Metropolitan Police Service is reminding Londoners to dial 101 when contacting police when it's not an emergency with expected increases in demand brought about by high winds.

The Met adds that calling 999 when it is not an emergency can reduce its effectiveness at dealing with genuine emergencies.

Met Office is warnng that ice is likely to be a hazard on roads and pavements across London on Monday February 5, and adds that the public should be aware there could be disruption to travel.

However, Hammersmith and Fulham Council say they have been preparing for the wintry conditions with gritters out on the roads for the last three days.

A council update on Sunday, February 5 said: " We have been gritting priority 1 and 2 roads since Sat 2 Feb. All priority 1 and 2 routes were gritted at 5am Sunday.

" Gritters are moving through residential roads today, prioritising roads where refuse collections take place tomorrow (Monday) working from the north of the borough. No major issues are reported.

" Footpaths - priority 1 footpaths were gritted last night and priority 2 footpaths are being gritted today, including council housing estates, prioritising sheltered housing."

H & F Council is also offering Snow Advice - tips on clearing ice and snow from pavements or public spaces.
