Heart and Lung Repair Shop Pops Up at Kings Mall

Have you popped into the Heart and Lung Repair Shop yet?

This unique pop-up shop, which has taken over an empty retail unit in Hammersmith’s Kings Mall is the creation of medical researchers working alongside local artists and designers.

Visitors to of all ages are invited to discover how these vital organs are far more complex than any car engine, central heating boiler or air conditioning system, and learn about what it takes to repair them.

The Heart & Lung Repair Shop showcases bioengineered organs, broken hearts that can heal themselves and amazing ways to stop cells from ageing, providing a glimpse into the future of science and medicine.

The Heart and Lung Repair Shop is open in the middle of Kings Mall every day until Sunday 20 July from 11am until 5pm.

There will be exhibits about heart and lung repair and hands-on activities, plus regular Shop Demos from heart and lung researchers.

You can pop in to the Heart and Lung Repair Shop any time, but groups of 10 or more people should book visits by emailing e.dowell@imperial.ac.uk.

Lunchtime Science Sessions

Every weekday until 18th July from 1pm - 2pm

Come along to The Heart and Lung Repair Shop for a generous helping of lunchtime entertainment and inspiration including short talks and demos from top scientists and a chance to browse exhibits about cutting edge heart and lung research.

Singing for Breathing Workshops

Tuesday 15th July, 11am – midday

Singing for Breathing is a workshop that uses singing to improve lung health! The session will include relaxation techniques, breathing exercises and vocal exercises, as well as singing songs. Stretch your vocal chords and hear about how the National Heart and Lung Institute is using singing to support people with respiratory conditions.

The Future of Heart and Lung Repair Debates

Thursday 10th & Thursday 17th, 6pm - 7.30pm

Come along to this event to hear some of the top scientists from the National Heart and Lung Institute discussing the future challenges of heart and lung repair. Have your say and share your opinions about cutting edge treatments such as stem cell therapies and bioengineered organs.
