While its owners plan an extensive makeover for Hammersmith's Kings Mall, empty stores in the King Street shopping centre are being temporarily transformed into an interactive artists' studio.

H&F Council's Arts Development and HammersmithLondon have teamed up with Kings Mall to create this creative new project, called KM Residency.

KM Residency invites you into the usually hidden world of the artist’s studio by turning Units 41-43 into a functioning studio throughout with the Mall’s opening hours.

Visible through the double-fronted glass of a retail unit, artists can be observed at work.

The scheme aims to address addresses the twin issues of the lack of affordable studio space for today’s emerging artists and the need for readily accessible public art.

The programme hopes to accommodate up to 12 artists, and to stimulate collaboration amongst participating artists and members of the public.

The organisers say: " The resulting project hopes to transcend the boundaries of its premise and evolve into a piece of community-led contemporary performance accessible to all so make sure to keep looking in and see how it develops organically."

Over the course of the programme there will be exhibitions or the artists' works, free and open to anyone who would like to attend.
