Deadline Looming for Small Business Grant Applications

Small businesses across West London have less than two weeks left to apply for government grants that could help them stay afloat during the fallout of the pandemic.

Anyone one who runs a local business has until August 28 to apply for a grant, that could help cover their business rates, by writing to their local council.

By the end of July, Hammersmith and Fulham Council had distributed more than £50 million to over 2,600 businesses in the borough.

Councillor Andrew Jones, Hammersmith and Fulham’s cabinet member for the economy, said, “The business grants we are delivering to firms is just one of the ways we’re working with local businesses to give them the vital support they need in these difficult times.

“If you qualify for a grant and have not sent in your details please do it now. We all need to do whatever we can to support our local businesses. We want to ensure our local economy bounces back stronger than ever after the coronavirus crisis.”

Westminster Council said in June that it had allocated £88 million to over 5,000 businesses during the pandemic.

Councillor Rachael Robathan, leader of Westminster City Council, previously said, “From the outset, I’ve strongly supported local businesses and will continue to do so as we progress through the lifting of lockdown restrictions.

“We’ve all experienced hardship as a result of this pandemic and it’s important to recognise and continue the strong community spirit we’ve seen flourish in our neighbourhoods.

“Local shops are the lifeblood of our communities and we are keen to promote the fantastic products and services available within Westminster.”

The grants use central Government money but are distributed via local councils.
