Post Office to Return to W14

Pressure to ease on Hammersmith post office as West Ken office proposed

A post office is to return to West Kensington, and the W14 post code will no longer bear the distinction of being the only one in London not to have its own branch.

The area has been unique as the first not to have a post office since post codes were introduced in 1857.

The post office counter inside Costcutter on Hammersmith Road closed in February last year.

However, after campaigning from Hammersmith and Fulham residents, it is understood that the owner of North End News has signed a contract with the Post Office to become a new sub-post master.

The date the shop on North End Road will open is yet to be decided.

Councillor Paul Bristow, cabinet member for residents’ services, said: “W14 was the first postcode in London without a post office and we finally have our branch back.

"It should never have been taken away in the first place and post office managers should learn that local people know best.

With no nearby branch, West Kensington residents have been forced out of the W14 postcode to Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush.
