MP Andy Takes Rubble Bucket Challenge

Has sand tipped over head to raise funds for suffering people in Gaza

Hammersmith MP Andy Slaughter has become the first British MPs to take part in the Rubble Bucket Challenge - as you can see here.

The Rubble Bucket Challenge was inspired by the current worldwide craze, the Ice Bucket Challenge, to highlight the plight of the people living in Gaza.

Ayman Aloul, a journalist based in Gaza, saw the huge success of the Ice Bucket Challenge in raising awareness and funds for the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association and devised a Palestinian equivalent.

His aim is to raise awareness, not only of the losses suffered by the people on the Gaza Strip but also of the lack of water and other essential services needed by the people living there.

Ayman's message is that in Gaza water is too precious to waste pouring over people's heads and also that, even if there was water to spare, it would be impossible to freeze it due to the lack of electricity in most areas.

In the video, filmed by Hammersmith Bridge, Andy Slaughter asks people to contribute to the DEC Gaza Crisis Appeal to help the 1.8 million people suffering without basic necessities, before having a bucket of sand tipped over his head.
