Westfield Prepares to Throw a Giant Tenth Birthday Party

Centre applies to host huge event with 1,000 guests, A-list stars and firework finale

Westfield London in Shepherd's Bush is gearing up for a huge anniversary celebration on 30 October, ten years after the day it first opened.

The shopping centre has applied to Hammersmith & Fulham Council to erect a temporary events structure in Westfield Square for the birthday party.

In a covering letter to the council, the centre's agents Montagu Evans say: " On the 30 October 2018 there will be a one-off event to celebrate the 10th ‘Birthday’ of the Westfield London Shopping Centre.

"This event will be large in scale with approximately 1000 guests, A-list music acts and a firework finale."

The party will also begin weeks of festivities within the structure, which will be a marquee with clear walls, in the run-up to Christmas.

The agents say: " On Thursday 1 November 2018 there will be a film premiere which will be held in collaboration with Disney.

"850 quests are expected inside the marquee structure.

"Following these two individual events, the marquee structure will be handed over to a bar operator to run a pop-up bar with a food offering. This will be open 7 days a week from 12 noon – 11pm.

"The last event will be held on Friday 11 January 2019 and the structure will be dismantled and clear of the site by the 18 January 2019."

These festive events will be in addition to the Christmas event space and grotto on Westfield Southern Terrace, which has already been given the go ahead by H&F Council, and which is scheduled to open on 22 November. You can see this application here.

The seasonal celebrations will end a momentous year for the centre, which has seen it changing hands after being sold by the Australian Westfield Group to French property giant Unibail-Rodamco.

It also opened its new expansion on 20 March, with the first of an ever growing list of new stores, restaurants and other facilities, including the John Lewis 'anchor' store, Ichiba Japanese food hall, indoor mini golf experience Puttshack, FirstLight cycling studio and All Star Lanes bowling venue.
