Hoax Bomb Scare Led to Explosion in Lyric Square

"Some poor sod's suitcase has been exploderised"

Police have confirmed that a hoax bomb scare led to last week's controlled explosion in Lyric Square.

The square and surrounding buildings were cordoned off on Tuesday November 30 after police received a call at 2.45pm from a man claiming he had left a suitcase in the square containing a bomb.

Bomb disposal experts arrived on the scene just after 3pm and carried out a controlled explosion on the suspect case just after 4pm, at which point it was discovered there was no bomb.

An entertaining minute by minute account of the incident was provided by comedian Bill Bailey on his Twitter account.

Bill, who said he was being "kettled" by police in his Hammersmith office reported seeing the bomb squad and sniffer dogs in the square, then hearing a loud explosion.

Finally, at 4.28pm he tweeted: " All clear - some poor sod's suitcase has been exploderised."
